Dave Evans - A Hell Of A Night
Melbourne had
been sweltering in 40 degree celsius heat for days leading up to Saturday
19th February, 2000 - which itself was no exception. An expectant crowd
was jam-packed into Edwards Tavern in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran
- they knew this was to be a very special occasion.
It was the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of one of their heroes:
the late, great Bon Scott of AC/DC. These were fanatical AC/DC fans and
they were about to witness an historical event. They were about to see
Dave Evans, the original lead singer and founding member of AC/DC, pay
special tribute to his successor Bon Scott.
The air conditioning had broken down and those in the packed crowd were
soaked in sweat by the time "Thunderstruck", the Australian
AC/DC Show, took to the stage and started playing "Can I Sit Next
To You Girl". When Dave appeared and started singing the entire crowd
erupted and joined in. He later said "It was an incredible reception".
The audience were fantastic and sung every word of every song. They knew
why we were all here and that it was history in the making - even in the
extreme heat. It was a hell of a night!
